Frequently asked questions.
What is a Sexuality & Relationship Coach?
As a sexuality and relationship coach, I specializes in helping individuals or partnerships explore and navigate various aspects of their sexuality, gender identity, relationship dynamics, and intimacy. I provide guidance, support, education, and tools to assist you in understanding yourself better, improving your relationships, and enhancing your overall sexual well-being.
What’s the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy?
I’m glad you asked! Therapy, often conducted by licensed mental health professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors), primarily deals with diagnosable mental health conditions or clinical issues. It involves a deep exploration of past experiences, emotional healing, and addressing underlying psychological concerns. Therapists employ evidence-based interventions and typically work on resolving symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health disorders. The therapeutic process often involves a medical or clinical model, focusing on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.
Coaching, on the other hand, is a collaborative process between a coach and a client focused on personal and professional development. It is relationship-oriented, goal-driven, and emphasizes enhancing one's skills, mindset, and performance. Coaches don’t delve deeply into past traumas or clinical diagnoses. Instead, they assist clients in clarifying goals, creating strategies, and taking action to achieve desired outcomes. Coaching commonly addresses non-clinical presenting problems, which refer to challenges that may not necessarily fall under a mental health diagnosis but still impact an individual's life, such as career transitions, relationship improvements, life balance, personal growth, and skill enhancement.
Understanding this distinction is important as it helps you choose the appropriate support based on your needs. In essence, therapy focuses on healing and treating clinical conditions, while coaching is geared towards empowering you to reach your potential and achieve personal or professional goals. While I am a trained psychotherapist, I only offer coaching services through Do Love Your Way, LLC.
What does a coaching session look like?
We get to co-create each session based on your goals. Typically, I will give you a worksheet to fill out to prepare for our sessions. Each confidential session will be conducted via Zoom. And after each session, you will fill out a reflection and any additional actions that you’ve decided to commit to between sessions. All sessions and notes are tracked in your own client portal for ease of scheduling, reviewing, and measuring progress.
What are your Rates?
That depends! You can start with a FREE discovery call to see if we might be a good fit for working together. And then based on what you are looking for, I will offer you a set of coaching calls specific to your goals. Most clients benefit from 3-6 months of weekly coaching, but some clients only need a few sessions to reach clarity. Rates vary based on how many sessions are booked upfront and if they are individual or partnered sessions. You can start with a one-off coaching session at $150 for 50-minutes. Or you can buy 4 sessions up-front for $500 total. If you’d like to invest in more sessions up-front, let’s talk! I charge the same rate for individuals and partnered sessions. If you want a longer coaching session, we can negotiate a pro-rated option!
Additionally, as Do Love Your Way, LLC operates on the unceded Lisjan Ohlone land, I make a financial contribution to the Shuumi Land Tax to support the work of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust.
